 Household maid Griet (Scarlett Johansson) becomes muse to master painter Johannes Vermeer (Colin Firth) and must deal with the difficult consequences of 17th century Holland. Stunningly designed and shot, this 2003 adaptation of Tracy Chevalier's novel, a fictional dramatization of who might have been the model for Vermeer's masterpiece. Nominated for three Oscars the film beautifully captures the visual world of Vermeer, and the exquisite beauty of Scarlett Johannson.

It tells a story about a young girl who disguises as a boy, Osama, that exposes the cruelty of the Taliban, and was the first film to be shot entirely in that country since 1996, when the Taliban régime banned the creation of all films.
